Cable ties: 7 tips for finding the right cable tie

1.Intended use

Depending on the intended use of the cable tie, a different type of cable tie is required. Depending on the application, different materials such as PA 6.6 or stainless steel, different sizes and widths, different colors and cable ties with special properties are possible.

2. Duration of use

The duration of use (or service life) is an important factor when choosing the right cable tie. 3. Place of use

Are the cable ties used indoors or exclusively outdoors? To what extent are the ties exposed to UV radiation? Cable ties for outdoor use should be UV-stable. Depending on the application, you must decide whether simple cable ties are sufficient. Black cable ties are usually UV-resistant to a limited extent, as they contain a small amount of carbon black. The UV-resistant HPER® cable tie can be used outdoors for up to 10 years in Central Europe, while the normal black HPER® cable tie lasts for around three years.

It is therefore also important how long you use the product. For election posters, it is doubtful whether UV radiation will have any effect on the material for a short time. Only black cable ties should be used for outdoor events. Cable ties for the installation of cables on solar modules should definitely be UV-resistant for a long time.

5. Tensile force

What tensile strength does your cable tie need to withstand? The tensile strength depends on the quality, the teeth in the cable tie head and the casting of the cable tie . The better the cable ties are processed and the higher the material quality, the higher the tensile strength of these cable ties can be. Cable ties have between two and four teeth in the cable tie head. The four-tooth head design means that a cable tie can withstand significantly more than cable ties with fewer teeth. Another criterion for determining the tensile strength of a tie is the width of the tie. The wider the cable ties are, the stronger they are.
